"Thanks to AV Remodeling, we had a huge project, much bigger than we initially planned for once we bought the house. There were only one or two "hiccups" which is a miracle given the magnitude of the project and if anyone enters into a renovation of this size or any size for that matter believing issues won't arise they are not ready to undertake the project to begin with. The difference with A.V. is the way they handled it, looking at the customer's perspective first.
Henry was invaluable to help get us through the project. His expertise as a master carpenter is one thing but him taking the time to foster a professional and productive relationship went a long way in getting us mentally through the past 5+ months. Simply put he was great. We thank Clyde [project manager] for his long hours, focus, and work managing this project. His position dictated that he deal with the majority of issues, not always fun but he did it in a way that met or exceeded our expectations at each hurdle. Gretchen [architect] drew up the plans to a beautiful outcome and Vinny [owner] was always taking the time to explain the process or rationale behind what needed to be done or the cost involved, even when we didn't necessarily like the answer. His honesty was refreshing and reinforced that we made the right decision on who we went with.
All that combined made an unbeatable team. We are glad we expanded the scope of the project because the result justified the means. Lastly, our project was completed 6 months ago and Clyde stopped by last week to follow up and see how we are doing. The best "service after the sale" we have ever dealt with. "Vinny and his team remodeled our house in 2008 -- a major project in an Arlington historic district with all manners of county restrictions and "this old house" construction challenges. The project was comprehensive. AV Remodeling took the interior of the original house down to the studs, overhauled plumbing, electricity, etc. and fundamentally altered the interior layout. They also built a new, three-story addition. In summary, they worked closely with us and our architect to (re)build a house that we love and remains true to our home's 1910 origin.

“Diane and I have a time imagining how we lived for 35 years with an ugly entrance, inefficient “also ugly kitchen,” and no family room on the first floor. Early in our marriage, we choose the lowest bid from a list of contractors from the phone book. We got fake wood cabinets, fake molding, and poor construction. We saved lots more money by me laying floor, tiling the kitchen as attending other projects for which I had no training. A white knight, Vinny D’Avena, entered the picture in 2005. He not only had the training but he was also very talented. The result: you can now enter a high ceiling, sophisticated room, properly furnished with “real” bookcase and proper lighting. The kitchen looks nothing like our original poor conception; it is a master piece and subject of admiration (if not jealousy) by our guests. Did I mention, we now have a high ceiling family room looking out to the backyard. It boasts custom windows and woodwork and cleverly melded with the kitchen. Thank you, Vinny, for making our living space so livable.”
