I’ve been participating in a Universal Design Program sponsored by the National Association of the Remodeling Industry. During a recent session, I was introduced to this Pedal Works Hands-Free Faucet Controller by Alustra. What I like about this product is it can be used in a kitchen remodeling project as well as new construction.
In addition to saving water, this hands-free device can minimize the spreading of germs—for instance after handling raw chicken. It’s also versatile in that you can switch back to operating with the hand control.

Our Food 4 Trees program is receiving arm loads of support. Many thanks to the wonderful employees at McLean Hardware for helping us spread the word. The feedback has been tremendously positive. During a conversation with MidSouth Building Supply, about our Food 4 Trees program, they were complimentary about how organized our effort is. So, much so--they want to donate food that they generate at an in-house food drive to our cause.
We've also heard from many people who would like to make a food donation but don’t need a tree. If you happen to be similar in that you would like to donate food but don’t need a tree or wreath, we will be accepting food donations at the Old Firehouse Teen Center on:
Friday, December 3 5-8PM
Saturday, December 4 10-5PM
Sunday, December 5 9-3PM
Looking for ideas on what types of food to donate?
We are so excited about the success of this program; we've decided to extend the pre-order date until November 28. To reserve your tree and make a food pledge, call Vincent D'Avena at 703-307-7860 or click here to order.
A restoration project we began this week, started with the same attention and planning as our remodeling projects undergo. When it comes to your home, even for a repair project, there is no value in taking short cuts.
The first phase for the McLean-Virginia residence, involved conducting a detailed site review. We took a microscopic look at the homes exterior. We removed trim and/or cornice to get a ‘behind the scenes’ look. Our goal was to uncover the full extent of the damage, prior to starting the work.
After our site review was completed, we developed a plan and the description of the work necessary to repair the damage. The description of the work outlined every item to be repaired and replaced, listed the materials to complete the work and identified how much it would cost. This important first step will eliminate surprises for the owner once the work has begun.
Stay tuned, we will share the before and after photos when we have completed the project.

A.V. Remodeling and Construction announced today their second annual kick off of its “Food 4 Trees” program. A.V. Remodeling started the “Food 4 Trees” program in 2009, with 20 families donating more than seven hundred pounds of food. This year, A.V. Remodeling looks forward to raising more than seven thousand pounds of food and having more than 100 families participate.
Frasier Fir Christmas trees, pine wreaths and pine roping are being offered for discounted prices when pre-ordered with a food donation pledge of $30 worth of non-perishable food for local families in need. Food donations will benefit Northern Virginia food assistance programs.
“Our goal is to do something good for the community. I wanted to find a meaningful way to get involved and reach out. This opportunity provides much needed food for local families, while allowing those pledging food donations to save some money on their Christmas trees. It’s a win – win for everyone.” explains Vincent D’Avena, owner of A.V. Remodeling & Construction. Mr. D’Avena adds, “I’m very grateful for the participation of our corporate sponsors McLean Hardware, McLean Copy and Hospitality Group. Their contributions really help make this program a great success.”
The Old Firehouse Teen Center in McLean has generously donated its parking lot for tree pick up December 3, 4 and 5. Participants can simply stop by either day to pick up their tree and drop off their food donation. AV and volunteers will be onsite to help cut and load trees.

Owner, Vincent D'Avena of A.V. Remodeling opens up about the company's history leading up to becoming an 'environmentally intelligent' remodeler and several specific practices to ensure A.V.'s green-focus. To read the entire article, see page 19, click here.
An interior renovation that included the removal of multiple load bearing walls to dramatically increase the size, accessibility and functionality of the kitchen. We moved the first story bathroom to the rear of the house and renovated it such that it would serve as a secondary focal point of the home. Also included was a basement renovation, finishing all hardwood floors, and an alteration to open the staircase.

A North Arlington renovation and second story addition. The owner is currently in the process of completing the plumbing, electrical, mechanical, drywall and painting by himself (with his own hands!!). We were contracted to complete the demolition, framing, the exterior shell, and some minor elements within the home.

A. V. Remodeling & Construction Announces Full Compliment of Services

A.V. Remodeling & Construction is pleased to announce our Design/Remodel services. We offer product and interior design, design/remodel, remodeling & construction, historic renovation and restoration, and energy efficient/environmentally intelligent remodeling.
Design Remodel is a method of construction that integrates a design phase with the estimate process to ensure the project is completed to specification and under budget. Within this process, the design is a critical first step that can streamline the entire project. A proper design phase will include a site review, planning, design, estimating and possible development work that will avoid problems that may need to be addressed during construction.
This process, when completed with our team members, will save money and unnecessary hassles, ensuring the construction project will be completed in the most effective way possible.
One of our guiding principles is environmentally intelligent remodeling. An eco-friendly home doesn’t cost any more to build than regular construction. We give you the option of using the best practices in remodeling for an earth-friendly home. They afford you the same comfort and utility as traditional construction, without sacrificing looks or causing you undue expens. Environmentally intelligent remodelling will even save you money over time through reduced utility bills.
We have worked extensively with historic structures and we apply the same level of systematic building practices on exterior and interior design while respecting the architecture of the period. Especially helpful when doing a historic renovation is our unique product selection shopping trip.
A. V. Remodeling & Construction is committed to giving you the best person for each task of your dream remodel. Call us today at 703-307-7860, no matter how large or small your remodeling needs.
