Vincent D’Avena, owner of A.V. Remodeling & Construction, has been selected by Remodeling magazine to join the Remodeling Big50. The Big50 awards were presented at a gala dinner at the Remodeling Leadership Conference in Arlington, VA on May 13, 2011. The 2011 Big50 winners are featured in the May issue of Remodeling, a national trade publication read by more than 80,000 professional remodeling contractors.
Each year since 1986, the Remodeling Big50 inducts 50 owners of remodeling companies that have set exceptionally high standards for professionalism and integrity through exemplary business practices, craftsmanship, and impact in their community or the industry at large. Big50 remodelers run successful, often growing, companies of various sizes that have taken the lead in raising industry standards.
The Big50 selection process has become increasingly rigorous in recent years, and the result, Remodeling editors believe, is one of the strongest classes to date. All 2011 inductees “stood up to detailed examinations of their businesses and their books, and they all demonstrated an admirably deft ability to restructure, retrench, and flat-out hustle to remain viable in a challenging economic climate,” according to Remodeling.
“We are very honored to receive this distinction,” says Vincent D’Avena, Owner of A.V. Remodeling & Construction. “The award recognizes excellence and leadership, and we are privileged to be named to this select group of remodelers.”
Remodeling editors, columnists, industry leaders, and the companies themselves make the nominations each year. Following a lengthy evaluation and interview process, the editors select the 50 individuals who exemplify the best of the industry that year, and who have something to offer other remodelers in proven practices. Winners are selected in these categories: business savvy, fine design, industry impact, market wise, movers & shakers, niches, sales & marketing, and teamwork. Vincent D’Avena was selected for the category of Business Savvy.
Remodeling, published by Hanley Wood, LLC, is the leading publication in the home improvement industry. Designed to address the specific concerns of residential remodeling pros, the magazine is both a business tool and an industry leader for a market that reached nearly $300 billion in 2010.

This video update shows our preparation in Phase III for the addition in this historic renovation project.

These photos show a large excavation bucket in what will be a family room looking out from what was a crawl space. This is the last major phase of excavation before the foundation will be installed for the addition.
This video was shot about two weeks ago. In Phase II of this historic renovation project, we are digging out the soil so we can underpin the home. The finished project will feature two bedrooms, a full bath, new family room and storage area. Check back for more updates on this ‘crawl space conversion to a full basement' renovation project.
In Historic Maywood, a neighborhood in Arlington, VA, A.V. Remodeling & Construction is currently installing a basement where there was once only a short crawl space. The original house had a basement only big enough to function as a closet. We are also building a one story addition off the back with a basement. The addition will feature a great room, new kitchen and eating area.
In this video, you will see a skid steer beginning to excavate from under a recently installed piece of steel. When finished, a full basement of two bedrooms and a family room will be on each piece of the steel.
We’re about 30 percent through the basement underpinning, and continuing to move forward…

This is a video of A.V. Remodeling excavating a basement. What may be difficult to see is that this is under an existing house. At one point, there was a 2 foot crawl space under the home, now we're about 80% complete with our foundation walls and are removing the last few wall sections.
